How far is the East from the West?

Psalm 103 (New Living Translation)
A psalm of David.

Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

The LORD gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.
The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.

How far is the east from the west?

Picture the globe. If you were located at any point on the globe and then began to travel in a northerly direction, eventually you would round the north pole and then be traveling south. Likewise, if you were located at any point on the globe and then began to travel in a southerly direction, eventually you would round the south pole and then be traveling north.

However, if you were located at any point on the globe and then began to travel in a westerly direction, you could continue in that westerly direction for infinity. At no point in that journey would you be traveling east. Likewise, if you were located at any point on the globe and then began to travel in a easterly direction, you could continue in that easterly direction for infinity. At no point in that journey would you be traveling west.

East does not meet West and West does not meet East!

And so it is with our sin. No matter where you are on the globe, once you accept Jesus Christ as being the Son of God and confess him to be the Lord, you can leave your sin right there, head in the opposite direction, and never have to cross that path of sin again!

Now back to the passage:

The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.
Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die.
The wind blows, and we are gone—as though we had never been here.

But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him.
His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!

The LORD has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.
Praise the LORD, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will!

Praise the LORD, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom.
Let all that I am praise the LORD.

Wow, Michael. Very interesting the way you put that. I never thought of it in that way before. Makes a lot more sense now that you have explained it that way. Have you heard the song by Casting Crowns- "East to West"? You should listen to it sometime. Blessings to you.

Hi Shalene!

I think it's cool that you can go around the globe an infinite number of times in an easterly or westerly direction and never do you got the other way. But it is impossible to go around the globe in a north or south direction even one time. You can only go half way before you are headed back. It seems rather strange considering that the earth is basically round and divided into quadrants. But so it is!

I love that song! I was listening to it in traffic yesterday. Incidentally I travel south to get to to work, north to get home. But I travel east to get to church and west to get home from there!

Thanks for the visit little miss goody two-shoes!

Too funny!! My point was that I'm not, silly man!! Blessings to you!! (And the world is eliptical. Not round at all.) Ha Ha! Gotcha!

I said basically round. But I'll go along with eliptical!

It's not flat. I do know that much!

I'm proud of you by the way. Father I thank you that Shalene has been freed from the addiction to nicotine, in Jesus name!
