What are you saying?

Did you know that words are the most powerful thing in the universe? Everything we see and the things we cannot see were created because God spoke them into existence. Words are seeds that produce after their own kind. Every word that comes out of your mouth is a seed. It will produce life or death. You are sowing seed every time you speak and as we know from the truth of God's word, we reap what we sow!

As I mentioned in my previous posts I have been through a period of isolation during the last couple of weeks. I have been feeling lonely and depleted. I even blamed this attack on the devil. But as I was in prayer last night God reminded me that I have the power to create and the loneliness that I was experiencing was really just the result of me saying the wrong things about myself.

God's Word is full of scripture that teaches us about the power of the tongue. Proverbs says the tongue has the power to bring life or death. In Mark we are told that we can have whatsoever we say, as long as it lines up with the will of God*. In James we are told that, the like a rudder turns a huge ship, so it is with the tongue.

I am so short on time today that I don't have time to write all that I want to on this subject. I hope to be able to write a more complete blog entry this weekend. School just started back however and I have a considerable amount of reading to do. In the meantime, I encourage you to keep a close watch on your lips. Begin to speak the things that the Word says about you. There is so much power in the Word and it becomes creative power when you begin to speak it.

Remember that if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; You are more than a conqueror! You are a royal priesthood! You are welcomed in the beloved! You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you! You are the apple of God's eye! You are without spot or blemish! Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world! You are a member of God's family! You are a friend of God!

Today I say Thank you Jesus!
In you I find my true identity!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my blog!

Wow.

This is so pertinent for me these days.

Thanks.

Where in Mark does it say you can have whatsoever you say?

Also, recently, someone taught me about the importance of being careful who you allow to speak into your life.

I've also been sensing that it's really important to say certain things out loud - almost like declarations - and to keep somethings silently between me and God.

And then I come here (I haven't been here for a while) and you've posted about this.

God bless you, your walk, and your ministry.

Sheepdog:

Thanks for the comment. I am a firm believer in the fact that are words are very powerful. You asked about my comment from Mark and whyere does it state that we shall have whatsoever we ask. I took that from Mark 11:23. Below I have posted that verse from several translations.

Mark 11:23

King James Version (KJV)
23For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

New King James Version (NKJV)
23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Amplified Bible (AMP)
23Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him.

New Living Translation (NLT)
23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.

The Message (MSG)
23This mountain, for instance: Just say, 'Go jump in the lake'—no shuffling or shilly-shallying—and it's as good as done. That's why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you'll get God's everything.

I waited to comment because I wasn't entirely sure what you guys believed. It had a hint of word of faith but I wanted to be sure and now I know. But respectfully, I must disagree with you....

Mark 11:23,24 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

Jesus is speaking in hyperbole here, much like in Mark 10:25 - about the camel going through the eye of the needle.

This promise of Jesus is not to be construed as granting his followers, nor even his apostles, blanket authority to perform monstrous and/or outrageous miracles. It was, on the other hand, a most valid and precious promise that the most awesome and overwhelming difficulties which they were to face would be removed through their faithful prayers.

It sounds like you believe in word of faith doctrine - that there is power in your words/prayer and I'm guessing WOF proponents use Mark 11:23,24 to support that view. WOF is not Biblical and is in fact a distorted interpretation taught my charismatic leaders today.

I say these things not to be arguementative but I am compelled to say something if it is a misunderstanding of the Word of God.

Blessings,
Carol

Don't get me wrong. I am not part of the Name It - Claim It crowd. But I do believe that the words we speak are either of faith or they are of fear. I don't have to tell you how often the power of the tongue and the power of words are mentioned in the Word.

What does verse 22 say in that passage? " Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God." If that's not a teaching on faith, then what is it?

Jesus had just spoke to the fig tree and the disciples had seen it wither. Jesus is saying that if we have "faith" problems in our life will also wither.

Andrew Wommack is one of the teachers I listen to quite frequently. Here is his commentary onthis verse:

Note 4 at Mk. 11:23: As explained in note 4 at Mark 1:42, page 86, faith is released by speaking words. Notice that speaking is emphasized three times in this one verse and the Lord commands us to believe that what we say will come to pass. We are to believe in the power of our words.

Failure to believe in the power of words won't keep this law of God from working. The last part of this verse says, "he shall have whatsoever he saith." If we receive this instruction and begin to speak words in faith that line up with God's Word, then we will have the positive results that follow. But if we refuse this lesson and continue to speak words of doubt, we will eventually believe them and have the negative things that these words produce.

As stated in Matthew 12:36-37, every word counts. There are no such things as "idle" words which will not work for us or against us. Death or life are in the power of every word we speak (Prov. 18:21). Our words can be our most powerful weapon against the devil, or they can become a snare of the devil (Prov. 6:2). Faith-filled words can move mountains.

Note 5 at Mk. 11:23: The physical mountain that Jesus might have referred to or have been pointing to would either be the Mount of Olives or one of the mountains that Jerusalem was built on (see note 1 at Jn. 5:1, p. 95). However, Jesus is using the word "mountain" symbolically to stand for any high obstacle that might stand in our way.

Jesus said we should speak to the mountain, or our problem. Most people speak to God about their problem but few follow Jesus' instructions and speak directly to the "mountain." God has put certain things under our authority and we must exercise it. When a problem stands in our way, we must speak to the problem and command it to get out of our way in the name of Jesus.

Note 6 at Mk. 11:23: The born-again spirit of man is not the part of us that doubts. Doubts come to the mind. Therefore, this is another confirmation that the heart, as the scriptures use it, refers to the whole inner man, spirit and soul (see note 3 at Mt. 12:34, p. 131).

Like Andrew, I do believe that when we speak words that line up with God's will and believe by faith, that we do recieve.

The key is that our words line up with God's will.

Having a new Lexus doesn't neccesarily line up with God's will. A six figure income does not neccesarily line up with God's Word. But to say that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me is God's will. To say that I am more than a conquorer is God's will. To say that I have been reddemed from poverty is God's will. To say that I have bee redeedmed from sickness is God's will.

I am glad you posted your comment. I should have added a little more clarity to my original post. I did say that we can have whatsoever we say but I failed to add that it has to line up with the will of God.

I mentioned that I wanted to write a more thorough postand I should have waited.

SO what do you think about Andrew Wommack?

Carol said...

What do I think of Andrew Wommack? Well you asked...

He does not believe in the Sovereignty of God.

He says if you are sick, it's all your fault and you are not to pray to God to heal you, but SPEAK to the sickness and cast it away, and if you don't get healed it is because of your unbelief.

He is a WOF teacher and is a big fan of Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland and most of his teachings come directly from them.

He believes in order to get more money you should speak to your wallet and command more money to come your way - this is where the nickname 'name it claim it' and 'blab it grab it' comes from.

Do you understand what WOF is? They believe that your words are an invisible force - a power unto itself that can be commanded and manipulated at will. They dress it up nicely and say it's all about the faith but that are really putting the power in the words you speak. He runs in the same crowds as Robert Tilton, Jerry Savelle, Frederick Price, Marilyn Hickey, Creflo Dollar and Rodney Howard-Browne. Andrew is a bonified wolf!

Please search this out for yourself - you don't have to take my word for it.

Andrew believes in the Sovereignty of God. Have you listened to his teaching on this subject? I agree with it. God has the final say-so in everything but he's not going to make each and every move. We are not just pawns that he moves around at his will. He gave an authority over this earth. He expects us to make decisions and follow through with actions according to his word.

Carol said...

So what about the other things about him? do you agree with those things too?

Michael said...

Carol:

I cannot say that I agree with all of Andrews teachings. In fact, I can't say I agree with all of anyone's teachings. God says we are to study to show ourselves approved.
